TED Talk Tuesday:

“The Surprising Habits of Original Thinkers” by Adam Grant

How do creative people come up with great ideas? Adam Grant talks about “Originals” and their surprising habits in this funny and inspiring TED Talk.

Grant, one of the top organizational behavior scientists in the word, defines originals as “nonconformists: people who not only have new ideas but take action to champion them. They are people who stand out and speak up, driving creativity and change in the world.” But how do they come up with these ideas?

In this talk, you’ll learn about 3 unexpected habits of originals, including embracing failure. “The greatest originals are the ones who fail the most, because they’re the ones who try the most,” Grant says. “You need a lot of bad ideas in order to get a few good ones.”

As someone who works in a creative field, I often find myself facing the doubts and fears that Grant discusses. Not voicing my ideas due to the fear that they “aren’t good enough.” I hope this talk inspires you as it did me on my commute into work this morning… to not be afraid of your ideas, but rather to lean into the fear of failure and let it drive you to create amazing things.

Running Time: 15.24 minutes
