Asen Marketing WTF Asen Marketing

Books

Who doesn’t love a good book, right?

At Asen, we’re a bunch of book nerds at heart, so we thought we’d share some of our favorite reads with you! Below is a brief overview of a few books we’ve read this month and what we liked about each of them. Between our office book club, industry reading, and “just for fun” books, there’s bound to be a book or two that peak your interest.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

by Mark Manson

Don’t let the title of this book deter you from giving it a chance. This is not your typical self-help book. As Mark Manson explains most self-help books focus on what you are lacking, which in turn make you more miserable. Dubbed as a “generation-defining self-help book,” The Subtle Art focuses instead on figuring out what really matters in life and how selectively choosing what we give a f**k about is the real true road to happiness. Life is a climb, and it’s time we learn to enjoy getting to the top.

Where the Crawdads Sing

by Delia Owens

This book just may be the best book you’ll read all year. I’ve recommended it to both men and women of all ages and they’ve all had the same reaction… they loved it. Where the Crawdads Sing beautifully maneuvers love, loss, abandonment, poverty, and overcoming barriers. I am a sucker for murder mysteries and that’s what drew me in, but this book is so much more than that. Go ahead and do yourself a favor and read this novel… you won’t regret it.

Big Magic

by Elizabeth Gilbert

This book, written by the author of Eat Pray Love and many other award-winning novels, has easily become one of my new favorites. In the simplest of terms, it’s about the process of creativity. She divides the book into sections themed around common challenges or obstacles creative people face when trying to bring their ideas to life. Her unique perspective on how to overcome those obstacles sheds new light on what we’re capable of as humans. This book has changed the way I look at inspiration and the way I react to my own fear of failure as a writer. I truly believe any creative (and as she puts it, “if you’re alive, you’re creative”) would benefit from reading it, as long as they keep an open mind. She covers some pretty heavy concepts, but in a light, almost magical, storytelling way.

Sales Differentiation

by Lee Salz

Lee is a gifted entrepreneur and author who’s spent his career perfecting his sales technique, which he writes about using personal stories throughout this book. In it, he breaks down the sales process and provides valuable insight into the best practices for each stage in the sales process, whether for the first introduction or a face-to-face closing meeting. I pulled helpful tips from this book that I now use when selling that I wish I had considered earlier. Overall, a great comprehensive look at how to close the deals you want, at the price you want.

Killers of the Flower Moon

by David Gann

As previously mentioned, I’m a sucker for murder mysteries… Killers of the Flower Moon elaborately covers a piece of history that I was truly unaware of. In the 1920s the Osage Nation in Oklahoma had the richest people per capita in the world. And where there is money, there is evil. Slowly but surely the Osage began to die. This story, of the birth of the FBI and these mysterious deaths, tells a tale of racism, bravery, greed, and the lengths people will go to for money.
