The Tea on Turning 40

We’re celebrating 40 years in business, thanks to the team members and clients who have helped the company thrive over the years. 

Started in August of 1983 as the basement-born company Paul Scoonover & Associates (PS&A), Asen went from exclusively offering illustration and airbrush design services to being a comprehensive marketing partner with full-service capabilities.

During this time, the company survived three recessions and other setbacks along the way. But along with the challenges came successes for Asen and its clients. In addition to Scoonover’s induction into Knoxville’s Advertising Hall of Fame, the team adapted to overcome the 2020 pandemic by pivoting to a hybrid-style work environment while undergoing a rebrand the same year.

Meanwhile, Asen’s clients have continued experiencing growth in their own industries. Hamrick’s, a regional leader in the retail market, is an example of this agency’s ability to grow partner brands. By teaming up with Asen, Hamrick’s was able to make significant improvements to its online presence, including a first-time venture into ecommerce and a 40% annual growth rate on social media that continues to rise.

When asked how Asen and its clients made it to such a momentous milestone, founder and CEO, Paul Scoonover, shared:

“Asen pursues success, not production. We view every partnership through a unique lens, analyzing all aspects of the business, from sales and marketing to customer service to its digital footprint. This holistic view allows us to think beyond short-term trends and produce long-term strategies for success. That’s been our biggest differentiator over the years.”

To celebrate 40 years of accomplishments, the team has several plans to roll out in the first half of 2024, including employee festivities and a few special surprises for clients. There’s also talk of a local celebration to involve the Knoxville community (more to come on this later).
