Simple food made with the finest, freshest ingredients. That’s what this brand is all about. Part of the Copper Cellar Family of Restaurants, Calhoun’s is a full-service, casual restaurant that brings simplicity and quality together to create a menu full of Southern favorites.
Calhoun’s came to Asen with a few brand improvements in mind. The restaurant needed to consolidate their branding to become more consistent and recognizable in the eyes of hungry East Tennessee residents. They also needed to solidify their reputation as a restaurant that produces quality food.
After discussing their goals at length, Asen and Calhoun’s partnered on developing several complex, integrated strategies that would deliver strong branding across the board.
An established family of restaurants in their industry, Calhoun’s came to Asen with a good grasp on their market and target audience. After many conversations and our own internal market research, we began the rebranding process by making their muted logo a bit more modern.
The subtle changes made to the design and tagline appeal to the restaurant’s prideful, Southern audience by highlighting traditional, American colors and symbols, as well as bringing the logo up to-date in regard to design trends and aesthetic.
The same colors and styles were then used in developing the website in order to gain consistency and improve brand recognition.
In the restaurant industry, stand-out product photography is a major factor in a brand’s success. When searching where to eat online, many people turn to pictures of food over reviews or recommendations from others.
In any industry, getting crisp, creative shots is an art that takes skill and strategy. In the food industry, it’s especially important because people tend to eat with their eyes first. After careful planning and some fun days on set, Asen continued to sprinkle new Calhoun’s photos all over their marketing plan, from the website and social media to simple, yet eye-catching billboards. This led to increased recognition and has helped the brand stand out in a sea of restaurant competition.
Creating a Buzz
Another important component in restaurant industry success is email marketing. With the help of those who know the brand best, Asen developed a strategy for implementing concise content that was both informative and creative into Calhoun’s eblasts.
To this day, catchy subject lines and value-added promotions continue to captivate attention and entice current and prospective guests into venturing to their nearest Calhoun’s!
